My Story

Paulina Rubio Dosamantes was born in Mexico City on June 17th, 1971 to her parents, Mexican film star Susana Dosamantes and Enrique Rubio. This little princess soon found herself playing behind movie sets. No one can blame her, for her mother is one of Mexico's greatest soap opera and film stars. Paulina is the oldest of two siblings. She has a younger borther named Enrique.

At age 5, Paulina was taking singing, acting, painting, jazz and dance lessons while enrolled at what is now the CEA in Mexico. AFter two years of being there, Pedro Damián and Martha Zavaleta called her parents to ask for their approval for Paulina to join a band which would be formed by children from the center.

Some time later, after months of rehearsing, on the 30th of April 1982 and under the guidance of the Spaniard Miguel Bosé, Miss Paulina Rubio became part of one of Mexico's all-time favorite bands: Timbiriche! The original band had 7 members: Alix Bauer, Benny Ibarra, Diego Schoening, Mariana Garza, Paulina Rubio, Sasha Sökol and Erick Rubin, who joined the group a year later. The band was a huge success. Paulina-as part of Timbiriche-recorded 10 full albums, participated in countless concerts and performances, and contributed toward the sales of more than 6 million albums!

In 1992, having left Timbiriche behind, Paulina is ready to become Mexico's Golden Girl. She had traveled to Spain earlier to record her first solo album, La Chica Dorada ('The Golden Girl' in English), with the record label EMI. After being a great accomplishment, Paulina recorded three more albums with EMI: 24 Kilates in 1993, El Tiempo Es Oro in 1995, and Planeta Paulina in 1996.

After Planeta Paulina, the Mexican blonde closed her era with EMI and concentrated her energy in the 'reunion', which recruited the original members of Timbiriche and thanks to a generous acceptance, began touring cities across Mexico and USA.

After the 'reunion', Paulina crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Spain where she demonstrated her artistic capability when she hosted the TV series Vive el Verano, where she was an interviewer, a daner and of course, a singer. The show's official theme song, also titled "Vive el Verano", was just a taste of what would be her fifth discographic production.

The year 2000 arrived, and to everyone's surprise, Paulina announces the release of the self-titled album Paulina, her first album with Universal. The album synthesizes what she wants to represent in the closing of the millenium. Mexico's Golden Girl aroused and took pleausre in shaking things up with singles like "Lo Haré Por Ti", "El Último Adios", "Tal Vez, Quizá", "Y Yo Sigo Aquí", "Yo No Soy Esa Mujer", and "Sexi Dance". Paulina soon found herself becoming the winner of multiple awards, gaining 3 Grammy nominations, selling over 3 million copies of Paulina, and going-not only Platinum-but Double Diamond with the album.

After the great success of 2000's Paulina, Paulina was finally able to make one of her dreams come true two years later in 2002; whne she released her English debut album, Border Girl, and became the first Mexican singer to crossover into English. With only one week after its release, Border Girl claimed the 11th position on the Billboard chart for the top selling albums in the US during its first week. HEr first singles, "Don't Say Godbye" and "Si Tú Te Vas", became a classic hits on radio. Paulina began to conquer the world, setting foot on places she had never been or been heard of before. These included Russia, Poland, Hungary, the UK and Asia, to name a few. But her main target, the US, is not to be forgotten; as she definitely did not miss it. The Golden Girl dominated magazine covers including Blender, Stuff, Ocean Drive, and Maxim, to name a few. Apart from magazines, she was also touring with English radio stations and hitting cities like San Diego, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, Houston, and Los Angeles. She also visited the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn. Who can forget her tour with Enrique Iglesias? Paulina went on tour once more as Enrique Iglesias' opening act in various cities. It can be proudly said taht Paulina not only made her dream of recording an English album true, but definitely earned satisfaction!

Paulina kicks off 2004 with a big-bang with the name of Pau-Latina. Pau-Latina was released on February 10, 2004 under Universal and quickly became the number one Latin selling album in the US for several weeks. Its first single, "Te Quise Tanto", also remained number one for several consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart. Shortly, Paulina's face was everywhere from presenting an award at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards to performing "Te Quise Tanto" as the opening act for the 2004 Billboard Latin Music Awards. She was chosen as the first female to host the MTV Latin America Music Awards that fall and prepared perhaps her most ambitious and memorable tour next spring. The Pau-Latina Tour began in Mexico that fall and kicked off the US leg in April 2005. Pau-Latina definitely left Paulina with a sweet taste, earning her two number one singles and in December 2005, she was named the "Star of the Year" by People en Español magazine.

Paulina disappeared for several months to prepare the release of her next album, whose first single "Ni Una Sola Palabra" began conquering the airwaves in July 2006 and went on to become Paulina's third number one single in September, when her eighth album Ananda also topped Billboard's chart for the top selling Latin albums in the US. Ananda took Paulina once again to perform at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and, for the first time in Paulina's career, to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in December, where she performed along artists such as Rihanna. In Spring 2007, Paulina kicked off the Spanish leg of her Amor, Luz y Sonido Tour followed by the US leg of Love, Light and Sound in May of that year. Ananda did not live up to the standards of previous albums as far as sales, producing only one Top 20 single in the US. Singles "Nada Puede Cambiarme" and "Ayúdame" failed to crack the Top 20 on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart. And Paulina took nearly two years to prepare her ninth studio album.

2009 saw the release of her new album, Gran City Pop, an imaginary mega city where Paulina gathers in one sight some of her musical and life experiences in the last few years in different cities of the world. On Monday 30th of March her new single "Causa y Efecto" was premiered on radio worldwide, and it went on to hit the top of the charts in Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and of course, the US, for several weeks. Paulina is reclaiming her crown as the Queen of Latin Pop with this album. Her new single "Ni Rosas Ni Juguetes" is currently on the airwaves and Paulina is set to kick off her Gran City Pop Tour in October 2009.
